Ha! Touche, dear.
Seriously, come on. It's a straight up love song about a woman in search of "daddy." The whole Mick thing is a stretch. |

Mick is just a delusional drama queen. I don't think ANYONE ever thought Oh Daddy was about him. Just his dumb ass trying to focus things on himself.

What are you guys smoking? Christine herself on the 20th anniversary Rumours show told everyone that Oh Daddy was about Mick. Like most other songs of course there are other meanings behind verses or words. But according to the song writer, Mick was the inspiration. Maybe he was just the inspiration for the title. However you cant discount what the song writer says.
Its like the song Sara. Stevie says its about Mick. No, not really. We know what the inspiration really was for Sara. But the great dark wing part was about Mick. Edge of 17 has 3 inspirations merged together.....the death of John Lennon, the death of Stevie's grandfather, and that bird in Arizona. Of course Oh Daddy has a romantic feel that probably is not about Mick but I must trust Chris because I don't think she would say something that is not true.

I think she was just humoring Mick, supporting his delusion of the song being about him.

You leave her alone. She can blanket her songs on anything she wants. They're her songs and she can do whatever she wants with her babies (that someone else wrote for her). You're just jealous because you don't look good in Stevie drag.

Ever since RUMOURS was released, or at least very soon after the time of its release, critics and Christine have acknowledged that three of her songs on that record were for or to specific people:
Don't Stop was written for John YMLF was written for Curry Grant Songbird was a kind of "prayer" written "for everyone and no one" But only after Mick insisted that Oh Daddy was written for him did Christine permit the possibility of that interpretation. Hey, if people want to see it that way, fine. But it's a stretch in my book. Just as Christine saying in 2014 that her 1975 song "Over My Head" was about Lindsey. I just don't buy it. I DO buy the idea that the band will do anything to breathe new relevance into songs that were considered old by 1987. On the whole, most of her songs are so plain and universal that there barely needs to be a context to support their existence. So why bother? She writes basic love songs. One thing Christine doesn't do is say "Don't Stop is about Bill Clinton--I realize that now." |

I'm shocked that *you know who* has never made that claim!

Its a lesser known fact that Dave Mason wrote one of his Time songs about Bill Clinton.
