I LOVE the whole thing except for the "family man" bit. Couldn't he have just been something else?! "Walk down this road...." Gorgeous. Love it. And I actually love the "I am what I am...", but right after that is where he loses me. Wow! A lot of everyone's picks have shocked me! Many of them are some of my faves, and regardless I just wouldn't have expected some of them. But that is not what this thread is about, so I won't ramble! Of the "Rumours era" band, gotta go with... Empire State Awful. LOVE ya Linds, but NOT feelin' ya here! Why, oh why, that instead of Goodbye Angel?! |

![]() but here are a few:
Not That Funny Lindsey's songs on Mirage (Lindsey is very hit and miss-- when he's on he's on, and when he's off he's way off!) Bleed to Love Her Silver Girl My Little Demon (I know this was a solo song but he performed it and released it with F.M.) Sugar Daddy Mystified

![]() I'm not even going to deal with the lineups without Lindsey.
Here are my picks for worst: Welcome to the Room... Sara (Starting with the punctuation of that title) When I See You Again (It's a toss-up with the one above) Silver Girl Temporary One Stuff I don't care for too much: Running through the Garden (could have been a great song with a different arrangement) Beautiful Child (Sorry, I don't see what everyone else sees in this five minutes of boredom) Only Over You One More Night Songs that I like but everyone else seems to hate: Oh Diane Caroline Sugar Daddy Songs that are positively brilliant, but not everyone agrees: Save Me a Place Not that Funny (the instrumentation on the Tusk version is beyond cool) I Know I'm Not Wrong |

![]() what is funny to me is that on "family man" when Lindsey is singing "mother father mother father mother father"... it sounds like he is saying "mother f**ker... mother f**ker... mother f**ker"

![]() Hmm... I like most of the songs by FM, but I have a few I don't care for...
Empire State~ Errgh... Running Thru the Garden~ Freaky Only Over You~ It's starting to sink in, but I can only take it in small doses. Family Man~ just don't like it. Welcome to the Room... Sara~ Just doesn't sit well with me. Mystified~ I like it, but I skip over it because I can only take it in small doses. Not That Funny~ Umm, yeah... I just think it sounds a bit cartoonish JMO. The ones I like but not everyone seems to like: Oh Daddy Sugar Daddy Oh Diane Wish You Were Here Come That's Alright Big Love (live) I basically like all of Christine's and Stevie's songs, come to think of it. I love Linds and all, but some of his music bugs me a bit...

![]() "Paper Doll" is HORRIBLE! And I really hate "Not Make Believe." The first verse makes me cringe. It completely ruins the whole song for me. Of Lindsey's, "Empire State" is the worst.
Some of Christine's stuff may be bland, but nothing offends me like the 3 songs above! |

![]() OMG! I soooooooo agree about Not Make Believe. That song is the pits!! Cliched lyrics, bad vocal, bad music; it sounds like an unfinished demo, for cripes sake! One of Stevie's worst songs EVER.
Okay, Mr. Rodeo, let me have it! ![]()

![]() ![]() Yep, I'm afraid: - the lyrics somehow ring true to me, - I find Stevie's vocal to be her best in ages, - Lindsey's vocals are chilling, - the thumping bass drum makes it their most 'modern' song to date, - and the guitar/percussion riffs blow the best of TITN out of the water. It is quite OOTC in many ways.

I DID listen to the song again to see if I was missing something, and I won't argue with your points about the vocals or the music. I can even understand how one could identify with the sentiment behind the lyrics. But COME ON, the lyrics themselves really are one cliche after another, strung together to make verses. The worst offenders: ...It hurts my self-esteem, it hurts my everything I am reeling, oh, it hurts my feelings Sometimes it was heavenly Sometimes it was too heavy Sometimes it's just too much for me It was the best of the times It was the worst of times And they both rushed by Like a thief in the night Taking no prisoners Just like the first time Adventures in paradise Just like the first time... ![]() |

![]() I agree totally, Sorceress - read by themselves, the lyrics seem to have come off a mental 'production line' (Ol' Mama's Pre-Packaged Song-Words, perhaps?
![]() I find two words describe how this song (and that's 'song' not 'lyrics' alone remember) strikes me: Pithy and Sexy. Stevie's voice hasn't sounded as sexy since the Tusk songs (IMO obviously). And although the lyrics are cliched, they are not as self-indulgent almost every other song she writes these days. And the simmeringly melodious vocal execution rises above mere words on a paper. Like 'Sara' - you might look at the many of the words and go 'Hmm yeah ok' but that vocal arrangement and quality of tenor is one in a million. The song rises above the lyrics (eg 'When you build your house etc'). The instrumentation is equally pithy - the catchy guitar/percussion riffs are sparely used and explosively brief. And that thumping beat drives the song ina similar way to Sara.

![]() NMB is okay. I think its best part is the way and when she sing the "and then there are those things . . . " part in that rather sexy voice she uses on this recording. Other than that and the cool bass and drum parts, the song to me sounds like a demo. Moreover and to beat a dead horse, I cannot believe they chose NMB over the brilliant Space Needle!!!!!
