the best i can come up with is that they are actually thinking of Fleetwood Mac being ridiculed at certain periods (Mick with Samantha Fox, i'd rather jack than fleetwood mac, that phase), when they were extremely uncool to say the least. although LB was not even with the band at the time.

I think they were mocked. Tom Petty said he didn't take them seriously and that that was a mistake on his part. Sunday I read two things from bloggers. One just said "Stevie Nicks and her sidekick" and the other was rejoicing in Christine's return and enumerating Stevie and Christine's long line of hits and noted that Lindsey only had Big Love, Tusk and GYOW, that's all because he wasn't a very good writer. The blogger didn't say whether he had anything else to recommend him aside from those awful writing skills, but I got the impression that he probably didn't. Michele |

Maybe it was an inside the industry thing, coz I don't recall many articles that dissed him for his writing/playing |

also, i think the bulk of what you wrote can be sorted under him being "overlooked" (as a guitarist, producer, songwriter, arranger, etc etc) not necessarily mocked. either way, i'm glad he's slowly getting his due. displaying his guitar skills while jamming with a bunch of much younger alternative rockers in front of the mass audience (and away from all that FM / SN's ex baggage) certainly seems like a good and enjoyable way for him to do it.

The articles would be ridiculing FM, not Lindsey specifically, but he was written off as just being that guy from FM and FM was not a band to respect. Michele Last edited by michelej1; 01-28-2014 at 09:16 PM.. |

re "these so-called scribes" - we need to just take a peak into rumours or SN's forum here and we'll see tons of posts to that effect. i don't normally see it in articles that try to at least have an appearance of journalism. but they are usually all over the fan boards, blogs, facebook, under youtube vids - infighting of the various band-member fan factions. sooooo - time to admit - who of the ledgies wrote those blogs Michele referred to?? although i was pleasantly surprised how scarce those were. when Hesitation Marks came out almost every single post or tweet i read was a complete consternation of what would a member of FM be doing on the NIN album. not so much now... people are getting used to it. hope it continues and also that he provides more reasons to be known for his incredible work and musicianship.

Interestingly, there isn't one of my guitar-playing friends who doesn't think Lindsey is amazing. Now, they'll complain about echoey vox efects and weird music, but they seem to agree that the man can play a guitar.
