I agree. Although I have known some brilliant/mental people. Now that I think about it, she may be a sociopath and that's how she passed the psychological testing.

Bipolar is usually detected at a younger age. How old was she again? then again, it could have been one of those rare cases that didn't surface/went undetected until now. It happens.

hmmm i hadn't thought about that but i think it's a definite possibility. i'm sure the story will be on dateline and or 20/20 in about a week. it's too unbelievable to not be picked up by everyone in the media.

She had to undergo a battery of tests to get where she is/was --- so, she seems like one pissed off broad out for revenge

That could be it, especially if she had a really good life with no unusual stressors like abuse and such. But yeah, being mental and brilliant are not mutually exclusive.

And riding the Space Shuttle would definitely qualify as an unusual stressor. No matter what they put you through in training, I'm sure it's not quite like the real thing.

Absolutely. Case in point, the gentleman whose life story was based on A Brilliant Mind.

This is true. She was probably at her breaking point when the last straw happened and she snapped. It's very sad. They say she was recently separated (2 weeks) from her husband. That is pretty stressful. Still, I can't imagine doing anything like that no matter how nuts I felt. I'd be more likely to get drunk or go shopping.

Thank you! Could not remember the name of that movie to save my life. I was going to use that. I also have an aunt who is a genius and bipolar. It is very very sad.
