oops, sorry sweets, just saw you voted for REM.
If it makes it any better, they may both be crap to me.
It's true I may be a piece of work, but surely not because of this opinion! Please!
When I finally discovered REM, I hated. At the time I was still, and neverendingly, catching up on my Retro. Always. That's about the time when I realized who the chick was who was singing GDW, Stand Back, And Edge.
But the band I liked most at this discovery time, was B-52's, Cosmic Thing. So, right there you see the taste divide. I was happy B-52 ing, and others were Angsty REM-ing.
You know I hate whiny angst, (unless it's Stevie), why are you suprised???
ILMF, still!!!!
And yes, I will readily acknowledge that REM are very talented and all that.

Ha, I didn't mean cause you don't like the band. I just thought it was funny you came in to "rag on REM." Made me laugh

I wasn't going to, I was holding it in, but then I couldn't resist. Not just to rag on them, but to actually state my real opinion. And you have to admit, I did acknowledge that they did some good things. And a bunch of other good things that I just have little capacity to appreciate!
Now:
"gyrate till you've had your fill! Just like a pneumatic drill!
Don't let it go, down the drain, you better hop on the Cosmic!
Wagon Train!
(cosmic! oooooo! )
Also, I am definitely living on Planet Z.
Also...I'm moving to the beat of a big bushfiiiyaaaahhhh!
Also...Where's my umbreeeellla! Where'smy umbrelllaaah!!!!

Hey, Trackie, who the heck will you put up against the awesome B-52's??????
Please, don't pick someone lame. lol.
Honestly, I think they are in a class by themselves, but you being a muso, I'm hoping you can find someone comparable. *bows to Trackie's muso powers*

I do admit, I appreciate that you said REM is a talented band, even if you do not like them.

I'm sitting here trying to rack my brain of a group who is somewhat similar to the B-52's and can't think of anything! Oh well, I know Sharon has it covered.

I'll definitely give you cheesy for "Shiny Happy People"! I think I tend to associate the word more with sentiment than with sound. 80s synths may be dated and frequently embarrassing, but they don't scream "cheesy" to me the way "Shiny Happy People" or "Don't Stop" does.

"Stand"... well, "Stand" was just awful, says I.

Also, I'm terribly disappointed with dictionary.com's entries for "cheesy":

Quote:
chees·y
adj. chees·i·er, chees·i·est

1. Containing or resembling cheese.
2. Informal. Of poor quality; shoddy.
That's just not right at all. Well, the second one anyway. The first one's dead on, as far as that goes.

I check out every REM-album after Green and Document 5. Some are ok. But not one of them ranks higher as the before mentioned for me. Any album that starts with a song that has the quality of The Finest Worksong is a potential masterpiece. I like Hifi though. Hell I even like Monster.
