Good luck! (or the more showbiz appropriate "Break a Leg!" I suppose) Sounds like a night of fun.

Hey everyone -
I've opted to open up my "Night of a Dozen Stevie Songs" to allow for the inclusion of Christine & Lindsey tunes. Regardless, the majority of the tunes still belong to Miss Nicks. So now I've renamed it "A Night of Fleetwood Mac tunes" — and it will be a fun show for fans. So if any one is around NYC this Wednesday night, do come out. It will be a lovely evening celebrating the Mac! Oct 7, 8pm Sid Gold's Request Room 165 West 26th Street. thanks for the support! Derek thanks for the support! x Derek |

Hey -
While I cant review it -- I can sum up the evening for ya. The venue feels like it was lifted out of the best days of old new york. Feels a little MadMen-ish, and a little vaudville at the same time. I had a good crowd -- and there were about a dozen people I didnt know. Perhaps they were ledgies/fans? Not sure really-- but the entire crowd seemed to enjoyed it. In retrospect I should have played just the hits. I got a lot of blank looks when I went with non hits (Sable on Blonde, Moonlight, I Sign for the Things, Think About it.) But when I played hits, or tunes from Rumours, or landslide everyone was all into it. The best parts was the TUSK tap-a-long (where I had the audience play the drum part on their tables) and the Stand Back/ Little Red Corvette mashup (where half the audience sang the STAND BACK chorus and the other half sang LITTLE RED CORVETTE. Everyone got into that! The venue was pleased and have invited me back for December. So stay tuned for more. thanks again for your interest! x Derek Bishop |

WARNING: rapid stream of thought, out of context ramble up ahead. (sorry Derek!) I don't understand the mindset of an audience having to be overly familiar with every song performed. Or having expectation like having to open with this song, and close with that song. Or the oft-cited "I paid good money for my ticket, so they have to play these songs or I'll be pissed off." "What? A new song? Time to take a bath room break!" I often accompany friends to shows where I know little or nothing about the band, so I am unfamiliar with all the songs. As fan of music and live performances, I can still enjoy the show. If you're a just casual fan, you should expect to hear songs you're not familiar with,or not hear some songs you are familiar with. For Fleetwood Mac, having three distinct singer/songwriters with numerous signature time-honored hits, it's a blessing and a curse; it leaves very little room for other material (new songs and deep album tracks) to establish themselves on stage. At this latter stage in the game,I don't fault them for playing it safe by just mining their past glories. Other artists, like Tom Petty can be more malleable with their set lists despite having a generous number of popular songs. While Tom gives deference to his hits, he doesn't glut his set list with them. His Live Anthology features about 60 performances that span his hits, deep album cuts, and covers. I doubt that his fans don't fret too much about what he plays and doesn't play. All of it is performed in classic Tom Petty style. Fleetwood Mac has a wealth of material that has never made it to the stage. Nor have they ever featured Mac-like songs from their various solo albums (the exception being Stand Back and Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You) or surprised us with a inspired cover song. I love the initial performances circa 1975-1976 when they filled out their sets with songs from past eras; songs like Station Man, Believe Me, Oh Well, Spare Me a Little, Hypnotized, Green Manilishi etc. I love hearing those performances, as well as Rick's blues era songs. In honor of Bob Welch they could have performed Sentimental Lady or Hypnotized - at a show or two. But that's another issue!
