One of the top ska bands in the country, The Offbeats were formed in 1994 in Wellington, and have gone through a number of line-up changes in their history before settling on their present seven-piece roster. The band have forged a reputation as an energetic live act, playing around Wellington and around the North Island on a regular basis, and taking in one-off events like the 1995 and 1996 NZ Ska Festivals, (alongside Skapa, The Managers, The Screaming Orgasms and Looney Tunes), and the 1998 Ska Wars at Auckland's Powerstation. More recently The Offbeats appeared at Sweetwaters '99.

The Offbeats have supported Australian bands The Porkers and Complete Madness in NZ, and have even extended the Aussie connection to their own tour of Australia during 2000. The Offbeats are featured on the New Zealand compilations Ska-otea-roa and A Day In The Life as well as several overseas compilation albums; Planet Ska, Only for Ska Addicts, Ska Spelled Backwards and Skank Down Under. The latter compilation has gone on to sell over 3000 copies. Their own full-length fully self-funded and produced album is in stores now distributed by Global Routes Music.

Falls over again.

Deep Forest is not African. They are 2 frenchies and as white as wonder bread.

Although they did play with African pygmies. But most was sampled.

What a blast to the past hearing their name brought up.

Been going on for years, brother. Nothing new.

And let's not include tacky South Africa.

Of course, although it seems these days a lot more of that music is actually "coming out" of Africa and getting attention from Western press and record labels.

well, Ive got the CD where they played with African Pygmies, I guess.

When I was trying to make sense of the liner notes, it appeared to me that the group was comprised of the Pygmies my mistake.

But Ismael Lo is Senegalese so I guess there's no question HE'S African

Better to be an Off-Beat than a Beat-Off, I say.

My husband loves this band. I guess I zone out when he plays it because I honestly can't tell you one way or another if I like it

I shall give it an attentive listen and get back to you!

One of my favorite off-beat bands is Ween. Crazy kooky-but my kind of crazy kooky! I even have a snippet of them trying Tusk!

Oh. my. god. I was just listening to Ween this weekend! Have you heard Quebec? What a fantastic album that is! I've been listening to it at least 3 times a week, I don't know why but I'm on such a Ween kick these days!

Edit: See the Ween pic in my new sig? You inspired it!
