Any recommendations of her own music?
Definitely start with Horses.

Failing that, my top 6 tracks are:
  • Frederick
  • Dancing Barefoot
  • Space Monkey
  • Dead City
  • Rock N Roll N***** (Although I do have the N word, it's an amazing song)
  • Break It Up

She also does a great cover of The Byrds's "So You Want To Be A Rock & Roll Star"

And, of course, there's always her co-write with The Boss, "Because The Night".

In regards to "Dancing Barefoot", that is such a great song...I've heard a few covers of it and they're ALL as good as Patti's own (with Concrete Blonde's & U2's rising above the rest)...it's almost one of those songs that you really have to go WAY out of your way to screw it up...it pretty much plays itself.

Cool Thanks for the suggestion...

on Patti Smith, will check them out soon.

Right now I'm listening to the sound of myself THAWING out from the trip to the cemetery with a 7°F air temp, 22MPH North wind and a windchill of -14°F

I couldn't even drive into the cemetery because the snow drifts were so tall that the 4 wheel drive traction on my Trailblazer could not engage correctly, so instead of getting stranded 9.7 miles out in the middle of nowhere, I just put 'Lil "D"' in reverse and backed out and came back home.

*Shock Horror* No Gloria? For Shaaaame! But Rock and Roll En word is one of the best ones too. But Gloria and Babelogue are my favourite

My playlist right now is pretty much these:

*The newest Amos Lee album
*The last one from Ray LaMontagne that came out in November
*And the last one from the Presets "Apocalypso", three years old now but just as good as the first day.

Oh, let's see...

A couple of nights ago, I was happy to find a couple of Badfinger albums on iTunes that are out of print in CD format, so I downloaded those. (the two albums that were originally released on WB after their Apple contract had expired, Badfinger & Wish You Were Here...released years before the Pink Floyd album with the same title. ) Ended up listening to nearly the entire Badfinger catalogue...everything except Magic Christian Music (their first album). What an underrated band. Sad that only one member is still living.

I love Badfinger! Very sad band history but some wicked music. I love the No Dice album, I Can't Take It and Midnight Caller are awesome and of course the original Without You. Best band to come out of this country in the 60s for sure(Budgie can get lost).

I'm kicking myself for not snatching (huh, huh...he said "snatch") up a CD copy of their pre-Badfinger incarnation called The Iveys during that first round of Apple Records CD releases in the early 90's. I don't think they've released that one on this latest set of re-issues.

Even the one post-Pete Ham album from the late 70's (titled Airwaves) was pretty good...too bad we lost Tommy Evans very soon after that one.

You might have a case had you said 70s. 60s? Uh, no.

Might I present...

The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
The Who
The Yardbirds
Fleetwood Mac
Led Zeppelin

...as examples.

My apologies, I stand corrected.

Most reviews of their albums (apparently incorrectly) refer to them as British.

There's also been released a 2 disc CD they recorded just a few months before Pete Ham's suicide that went unreleased for decades...the album itself is disc 1, demos & outtakes make up disc 2. Called Head First (what's with bands stealing Badfinger album titles? The Babys stole this one!)....http://www.amazon.com/Head-First-Bad...606214&sr=1-14

I prefer American bands from the 60's.
The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Beach Boys (Pet Sounds era)

Cool "Fire of Unknown Origin" is a great album...

Since you brought them back to mind.. lol.. now I'm listening to:

"In Thee" - very uncharacteristic of their sound (as are other tracks on their Mirrors album); I really like it though.. has a bit of a Dan Fogelberg vibe
but my fave BOC album is "Revolution By Night", followed by "Imaginos" and "Club Ninja".

The album "Mirrors" is the least like BOC album in my die-hard fans opinion, I don't think it's that bad an album myself...I'm listening to "Dr.Music" as I type this message.

I pretty much let go of my BOC fandom after "Godzilla". I think the Mirrors album was pretty much the wooden stake and I haven't been back since. I still think their first three albums are close to being among the best "first 3 albums" of just about any band. (plus I saw them from row 3 center, pre-"Don't Fear The Reaper" and they were awesome! A couple of tracks from that show ended up on their first double-live album)

I never like "Godzilla" as much as others BOC fans did

I do agree that "Blue Oyster Cult", "Tyranny and Mvtation" and "Secrets Treaties" are a great three album start for a band, but I think the middle albums ("Agents of Fortune", "Spectres", "Mirrors" and "Cultosaurus Erectus") was where the direction of the band got sidetracked from the original vision of just jamming out songs to trying to a "hit maker".

Btw, The first live album is "On Your Feet or On your Knees" (A very good live album)
