I am an emoticon convert. Considering the fact that the message board is essentially a new form of communication, I will use all the tools it offers to get my point across and have fun. It also helps when using a certain tone of voice to make sure people get it. Though most often, I don't give a rat's ass if I piss people off.

I remember reading something about the use of smilies.. eh... the people who used them actually communicated better or clearer on the internet? I love my memory, arrghh.
Anyway,

You win, Kudos.
I think smilies are cute and nice to use to express more of what you are saying. They are expressions, mostly joyous, happy ones, so really, what is wrong with that?

The more the merrier

It's a take on the dancing banana, which I also hold near and dear to my heart. I saw them on the Haven.

You got it, they're fun. They make me smile. I like to smile. Of course they're not "required" for a conversation but they do add something, which to me is a positive thing.

Well I'll be damned.

Here's my random thought: why isn't she good enough for her mother? Why couldn't all mothers nurture their children instead of put them down and push them out of their lives? What did this kid do that was so wrong besides be a teenager??

I can't stand closed minded people.

I know this is the random thread...but could you be a little more specific? Or did I miss something?

hey dammit! it's random! does there have to be an explanation behind everything??

Samantha's mom. She's just saying and doing things to her that no mother should do to their child. Sam doesn't go up there often, so her mom got pissed and told her that she (Sam) threw them (Sam's parents) out of their lives, so that's how she was going to let her have it. Now she refuses to speak to Sam or hear any explanation as to why Sam doesn't want to be up there. She's being irrational, and it's getting on my nerves, because it's upsetting Sam.

I don't know what to do at this point except see if it'll blow over. Seems like there's really no talking to her mom.

omg who is the child, here? i know parents make mistakes but please.

I have a friend whose mother is kinda acting the same way. my friend's been catching up for lost times with her dad (her mom would bad mouth her dad when she was growing up and my friend believed her mom..now she knows better) . well the mother is getting upset by it and once told her that he's not even her real dad. omg.

then they got in a fight over christmas. her mom sent her a long email telling her that no mother should ever have to hurt the way she hurt her over christmas. and blah blah blah. she would throw in "honey" or "darling" sarcastically. she even told her she was filled with hate and may god have mercy on her soul

i know that doesn't help much, but you are the best thing that ever happened to that girl and just keep that in mind. be thankful she has someone to lean on. even if it isn't her real mother. you are an angel maria
