Not a reliable way to compare, Villavic. The magnetic tape moves at an ever-so-slightly different speed on a VHS. Digital speeds, too, can be modified for production reasons (they need more storage room on the CD, they artificially speed up what feels like a too-slow performance, and so on). Also, the track time on different editions will differ when the production team decides to lop off a little more or a little less audience applause or other negative space.

However, based on what you’re saying, I’ll listen more closely to the drum solo.

Tape speed isn't really the issue here. The HBO/Forum 1982 version of 'Not that funny' has been released in three versions:

1 - The original VHS version from 1983 [10:43]
2 - The heavily edited 1992 version on '25 Years - The Chain' [7:47]
3 - The less edited versions from 2016 (Mirage Deluxe) and 2024 (Mirage Tour '82) [8:54]

(Times are without audience noise/applause and so on)

After having this CD for some time now, I will say this is probably my favorite version of Landslide. It has a little 70s magic sprinkled with a raspy Stevie early 80s. Has the Chris keyboard solo and is played at a faster speed that it is today. It hits that sweet spot for me. Besides the BTM version which was full of klonopin and without Lindsey, THIS was the last time it really shined without being a sing along. There is unpredictability in her voice which makes it exciting IMHO.

I still can't believe after all these decades that I have a professionally recorded commercially issued CD live songs from 1982 that include Brown Eyes, Oh Well, Sara, Hold Me, Landslide and all the rest. Makes you wonder WHY they waited so long to do this. I bet this CD collection would have even charted if it was released during the Dance. Many of the reissues or deluxe releases are meh or not that special, this is a must for any Mac fan for their collection. Its so magical for so many reasons. It was the last tour before solo careers took over. It was the last tour without backing musicians and back up singers. It was the last tour before members left and then would rebound many years later. It was the last tour promoting a #1 studio album and being MTV darlings. IT'S SO DAMN GOOD

Agree, I've listened to this show a couple times already. It's a lot of fun. The energy comes across as intended. Great great great release!!

By 1982, one might say Fleetwood Mac was past its prime. Its best recorded material, bookended by 1975’s self-titled album and 1979’s Tusk, was already behind it. The age of ‘70s excess was passed and a new musical era was dawning. The group’s 1982 album, Mirage, was something of a return after the experimental Tusk; however, it was also to some degree a paler imitation of past album glories.

Mirage Tour ‘82 captures the band live promoting their latest album, rendered here in a three-LP set taken from two nights at The Forum in Inglewood, CA. First off, 12 of the tracks here were part of the 2016 Mirage (Deluxe Edition) release, and an additional three were previously released on the Fleetwood Mac Live (Deluxe Edition) from 2021. But six additional tracks (“Don’t Stop,” “Dreams,” “Oh Well,” Never Going Back Again,” Landslide,” and “Sara,” if you’re keeping track) are original to this set. And apart from the quality of these six unique tracks, all part and parcel of the Fleetwood Mac 1982 live experience presented here, the whole show as presented is a terrific document of a band that sounds intent on proving its best days were in fact not behind it.

The set begins with fun harmony-laced interplay between Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham on the opener, “Second Hand News,” and continues with Buckingham sounding at his most unhinged on a fiery version of “The Chain.” “Don’t Stop” sounds played out, which I suppose it was, and “Dreams” sounds uninspired, which again I suppose by 1982 it was. But by the time the show really gets moving though, things pick up nicely.

Buckingham plays the heck out of “Oh Well.” Christine McVie’s “Brown Eyes” stands out for its detached cool. Buckingham’s terrifically jumpy, yelp-filled “Not That Funny” also features some nice sputtering bass work by John McVie. A slowed down “Never Going Back Again” highlights Buckingham’s fingerpicked guitar. “Landslide” is sublime perfection, and “I’m So Afraid” is a highlight for its slow-burn intensity.

By the time Mirage Tour ‘82 closes with the trio of “Blue Letter,” “Sisters of the Moon,” and McVie’s gem “Songbird,” it’s clear that, despite Fleetwood Mac’s best recorded material being in the rearview, its live show was still a juggernaut. (www.rhino.com)

It's a good review. And I wouldn't define the album as a paler imitation but it's true the magic of the late 70s was over.

I focused my comment in the studio albums opinion. I do think Mirage is a good album and I like it a lot, but I think the songwriters' interest (specially Lindsey and Stevie) in further promoting their solo careers avoided them from including other songs that could have made the album a much better piece of work. Though pale imitation was an excessive criticism.

And the fact that the tour lasted so little time is a clue that the conflicts and nightmares that existed from the previous decade now weigh more than the interest in being a magical and extraordinary band that gives us its state of the art.
