John Stewart!
Does anybody else here think John Stewart is just the greatest? I just love his music. The only albums I have are Bombs Away and Wires From the Bunker. I wanted to get some more but didn't know which ones to get. Does anybody have any suggestions? Also has anyone ever seen John perform live? Does he ever do concerts or anything?

Lindsey and John did a performance live...circa what...1982 I guess? I don't know what he's up to now though.

Agreed!
Bombs Away Dream Babies is an EXCELLENT album! I don't own any other ones of John's, but my CD wishlist is VERY long. LOL
Yeah, Lindsey sang (and played bass!!) on the Kingston Trio Reunion, which you can get online. I can't remember where I bought mine from, but just do a search on yahoo and it should pop up somewhere at a decent price.

It was only available on LP, but his follow up to Bombs Away Dream Babies called Dream Babies Go Hollywood is a great album!

If you can find it on vinyl at a used record shop or on Ebay, there is an EP called Revenge of the Budgie that John Stewart did with Nick Reynolds of the Kingston Trio, Lindsey appears on a few of those tunes and they are fabulous. They were reissued on a CD with other John Stewart tracks and the disc is called Chilly Winds, I recommend that as well as Blondes which features Lindsey on "Jenny was A Dream Girl" and all the songs are very good.
One other great disc I own and was the first Album I bought of John Stewart's back in 1985 is The Last Campaign which has Lindsey on three tracks as well as other great songs that were written when John went around the country when Robert Kennedy was campaigning for the presidency.

I love John Stewart too!! I think he may be on tour right now, playing small bars. Really!! He was at a bar here in upstate NY about a month ago. I read about it the day of the show in small blurb in my local paper!! I didn't go - we already were on our way out of town for the weekend. He was playing on a Friday night at a bar in Oxford, NY. And itt was THE John Stewart! They mentioned his albums and even Stevie got a mention.

WOW! Count me in as a member of the $100 BADB club! "Spinnin' of the World" is such a cool tune, along with "Gold" and "Midnight Wind". Actually heard it in a supermarket once!

John Stewart is one of my favorite artists. I've gotten to see him perform several times, spoken with him, even drank a beer with him. Heck of a nice guy. Here's some information for you:
Bombs Away Dreams Babies, the follow-up Dream Babies go Hollywood and the recently released 1981 recording Wire From the Bunker represent John's "Lindsey Buckingham era". Also, the collarboration with Nick Reynolds (another Kingston Trio alum) with LB on Revenge of the Budgie does as well.. Its apparent in the music that he was highly influenced by LB. This was his rock period and it doesn't really represent his extensive body of work. As years went by, his music has gone back to a more comtemporary folk sound. His best album from the 80's is Punch the big guy from 1987. I believe its still available on CD. He just released a record this year called Havana. I haven't heard it yet but i read some reviews and they were very favorable. |
