I've heard that before. It would make sense if that was the time period it was written.

If that's who you meant, am I the only one who thinks they never really had a relationship? I think they might've been flirty sometimes but I don't think it ever turned into anything or anything serious happened. Maybe I just want to believe there was someone she didn't sleep with. And the Dallas Taylor relationship was all kinds of wrong. It freaked me out a little when she was talking about it like this grand romantic thing. I'm pretty sure it's something you can get fired for. |

I'd love to see it in the setlist. I think it's a great dance number. Most of the audience won't know it, but it's less likely to make them rush for the concession stand than an unknown ballad is.

I was always under the impression that this song was largely targeting Kristen. Was this song written before 99? I thought the "affairs in the dark" part referenced Kristen getting pregnant. That LB doesn't really love Kristen but Stevie, but he's stuck because of the kids. The second verse is targeted more at LB.
Overall basically a he doesn't really love you the way he loved me, and pssss...he still does that sure gotta piss you off. I could be way off, but when you look at it through that lenses it's a pretty cutting song. |

The working title was Monica. She calls it that in the Destiny Rules doc.

Stevie songs about real people are always really about Stevie, about the parallels she finds between them and her own life.

I will always love my ex, but I don't want to be anywhere near him most of the time. And I'm not at all, 'in love' with him.
.......And, I applaud any man that would come after me. It's a lot of work dating him.

Oh. anywhere we can baby, any time we can get away ... I think that line was taunting Kristen too. I don't think there's anything going on with them now and hardly feel they're still "in love", but I think there was something in 1997 and that a slew of songs emerged from it.

The man had been married for almost 20 years. Give him some credit! To analyze Stevie's lyrics is useless. I think sometimes she doesn't even know who's the owner of each of her songs. But I also think something happened in 1997... and then he got married!
