Stevie Nicks Delivers Lots of Surprises

At age 68, Stevie Nicks still commands the stage and can deliver quite a show. It’s very obvious from the beginning of her show at the Century Link Center, she was going to do her own kind of show, not the typical Stevie Nicks show. She told the crowd “come enjoy the journey with me.”
The Pretenders opened the show and I was as excited to see Chrissie Hynde and her rock group as I was for Stevie. It was a powerful opening with the 24 Karat Gold Tour.
The Pretenders delivered some new music and revved up the crowd with the power ballad “I’ll Stand by You” and wrapping up the opening act set with the mega hit “Brass in Pocket”.
After a quick set change and break, it was time for the main event. Stevie came on stage to deliver music with some great stories about many of her songs. One surprise early on was her first big solo hit “Stop Draggin My Heart Around” which included Chrissie Hynde coming back out to be her duet partner. That was a treat.

Nicks also pulled out some tunes we’ve never heard before including “New Orleans” a tribute she wrote while watching the coverage of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
After performing “Stand Back”, Stevie told the crowd how that song came from some of the beats from Prince’s song, “Little Red Corvette” and she talked about meeting him and getting his ok to use part of his music for the song. She also did a video tribute to Prince during the show.
But the rock legend had some in the audience in tears when she came back out for her encore and performed the classic hit “Rhiannon” and capped off the night with one of my top five songs of all time, “Landslide”. You can watch the big finale by clicking right here.
It was a fun night and I enjoyed my pre-show dinner with some of my girls.
