She co-wrote with Sandy Stewart.
I would love a co-write between Christine & Stevie. I do believe this is the first time either of them has ever mentioned having tried. What may need to happen, is for one of them to start a song and then have the other help them complete it. Co-writing completely from the ground up, might be a little too tricky because of their different approaches. |

I just think it's coz Stevie doesn't have a musical vocabulary… I was listening the other day to some of her demos and the Rock a Little songwriting tape of her with Mick and she says things like " maybe this part should go with that part, you know, the other part" and Mick tells her to play the parts she means for him because really, her referents are so vague you can't be sure what she's referring to. Or she says things like "it needs to be more airy" (Outside the Rain working tape) and on and on. Lindsey has a better grasp of what she means by stuff like that (or he did).
Chris says things like "keep it going til the B-flat" (Oh Daddy on the Rumours 35oth… oops I mean 35th edition) So I think that Stevie just can't articulate what she wants in a song and it falls to her collaborators to interpret her somewhat vague comments, and Christine being a trained musician probably struggles to work with that. |

They've had plenty of opportunities to collaborate (I'm thinking especially during the Behind the Mask era) but I'm assuming it's because their approach to music is so different. Stevie has a truly individual approach to music and needs someone who can help her clarify what she's looking for. As Bombay offered, Christine's musical vocabulary might be too technical. But I also get the sense that Christine in her collaborations is eager to stretch out, be sparked musically from a "build the song up" perspective, which Stevie, despite her lack of musical vocabulary, is not very interested in doing: she seems to have clear, predetermined ideas of where she wants her songs to go, even in their most rudimentary stages.
In short, Christine wants a collaborator to DISCOVER more musical opportunities; Stevie wants an interpreter to realize her vision. |

Umm...
A Woman is the Blues- with Stan Webb Close To Me- with Richard Hayward Did You Ever Love Me- with Bob Welch Love in Store- with Jim Recor Hold Me- with Robbie Patton Wish You Were Here- with Colin Allen Ask Anybody- with Steve Winwood with Eddy Quintela- multiple with Lindsey Buckingham- multiple with Todd Sharp- multiple with George Hawkins- multiple with Billy Burnette- multiple with Dan Perfect- multiple ...bit of a pattern here. perhaps Christine can't write with women! (have I missed anyone?) |

Wow! Such a profound and insightful statement. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it.

Aww, thanks! Both approaches are fine, but as a writer and amateur visual artist, I find myself more in synch with Christine's approach.

That's why Chris had the hits. Let's make this into the best pop ditty that we can!
