![]() [Hey, why the gratuitous slam of John??]
Sydney Morning Herald (Australia) http://www.smh.com.au/news/cd-review...602630565.html Lindsey Buckingham was always the oddest member of Fleetwood Mac's '70s line-up. The witchy woman had the scarves, Mick Fleetwood had his dangling balls and Christine McVie was inexplicably married to John McVie when she seemed much too intelligent. Buckingham, however, was the music magpie and maven who kept threatening to send the band into both wacky and wonderful, sometimes simultaneously. He was why they were always worth hearing. The Cave Singers, to me, are what you might get if Buckingham went country-folk-blues. Peter Quirk sounds like a weary, home-still-fired Buckingham, the music is funereal black at times, backwoods jaunty at others and the songs are filled with drinking, houses of disrepute, departing lovers and Christine galloping past a home "bearing gifts to the ghosts". The tunes sound damned attractive and almost, almost, like pop songs from a slightly altered world. |
