Gold Dust Woman Phoenix video
For those of you who haven't seen this yet....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8KsbXWKGAo It's really interesting to compare this performance to the one from the Dance video. I love how the band stretches out a lot on this tour. It really shows you how careful and rehearsed they were in 1997; almost as if they felt like they had to prove themselves again. On the current tour everyone seems so much more relaxed and comfortable in their own skin. I know they're all a lot older with deeper voices and a slower pace; but I love how they're playing now. There are moments that almost remind me of the Grateful Dead when they were at their peak. That's probably not a good thing for some people, but I mean it as a compliment. It's nice to see them play in such a cohesive "band-like" way, as opposed to a group of solo artists who maybe don't feel like being in a band on any given night. On this night in Phoenix, they played like I remember them in 1979 and 1982. |
