A Music Class 4th Graders will Never Forget!

On Wednesday(VivFox's Birthday), music specialist, Mrs. Rosen, invited Mick Fleetwood to visit the 4th grade to enhance their unit on the music of the 1960s and the British Invasion.

In class, the students have been exploring videos and listening to the music of the era, while discussing the peace movement which is reflected in the music. The different genres of music from this period include Rock, Folk, Surf Rock, and Motown.

They also learned about the historic concert, Woodstock. Mick Fleetwood knew many of the bands of that time, including the Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

Fleetwood Mac was formed in 1967 as a Blues-Rock band. For our 4th graders, Mick demonstrated, with the assistance of our own Sierra Rock Band coach Howie Anderson, the difference between a Blues Rock sound and straight Rock and Roll beat.

They performed a blues song as well as Johnny B. Goode, a Rock and Roll standard. Mick played his famous drumming styles while Howie sang and played the guitar.

We also watched a video of Fleetwood Mac and Mick played along with the video.

At the end, the students asked a variety of question about his life in the music industry.

It was a once in a lifetime experience for our 4th grade students, and the staff as well!
