Default "Landslide" 1980 Live Album Appreciation Thread

I've never started an appreciation thread but since it's Christmas that'll be my present to all of you...

I just dug this out recently out of nowhere and am really hearing it in such a different way. IMO, such an amazing version. I used to kind of get annoyed at this version because she whispers half of the lyrics but it just conveys such a deeper level of emotion than any other standard live version. Her vocal kinda reminds me of how she sang in the piano version of Rhiannon in the WWD concert.

Also, one thing I'm wondering...the guitar arrangement on this is completely different than any other version I've heard from the Tusk tour. It's a bit more intricate and complex, almost like there's maybe 2 guitar tracks. At first I thought he was playing 12 string but it's not. I think maybe there were some new guitar tracks overdubbed for the album.

Never noticed that. Will listen again with fresh ears for those differences.

I have always loved this version of Landslide. Her vocals are to sweet for words. That one part at the end the way she says....."so".....WOW! Then the way it just ends.....perfection.

Default Live version dedication

Does anyone know who "Linda" is when Stevie dedicates the song? She says, "This is for you, Linda, because you're very special to us."

I thought she was saying "London".

Didn't they have a second guitarist on stage for some songs on the Tusk tour? Oh, but then again, this recording pre-dates the Tusk tour, doesn't it? I don't have the album handy to check the notes.

Ditto to the admiration of Stevie's frail, whispery voice here. She sounds exhausted, and desolate. Powerful stuff.

I liked her exhausted whispery effect on Monday Morning too, from the same live colection. But that wasn't the same show.

I heard that it WAS actually Linda. Wasn't this around the time that Paul McCartney got busted in Japan for pot? FM and the McCartney gang crossed paths over there and Linda gave some of Paul's stash to Stevie (who, of course, shared with the rest of FM). So, Stevie was thanking Linda for that.

No, and not even the same year. MM was from Japan '77. I don't really even hear Stevie on that song. I know she is though because it's on video!

Just like petep9000 says, Stevie said London, not Linda.

Let me teach you a little spanish though. Linda in espanol means pretty or attractive.

When i first had the album on vinyl i used to think (and hope) that Stevie was saying "Lindsey" but then i realised it was "London" and was quite chuffed about that too

This always cracks me up. For YEARS many fans have been asking who Linda is, but it is of course it's London that she's dedicating the song to (that's where they were when it was recorded). The same deal with the Red Rocks performance of "No Spoken Word" where there are people (I'm sure some in this very forum) who insist she is saying "Well I don't know how to learn from the pages of a motherf**king book!!" When in fact she is saying/slurring "Well I don't know how to learn, not from the pages of a book!!" The word "of" is drawn out. Which is how she sang it on the entire tour.

I of course agree with you that she is saying London. But I'm not too sure about the NSW part. I know she sang "of" (sometimes "from"?) the majority of the time. But if she is really only saying "of" that is the most crazy "of" I've ever heard. She might really be saying "ofaasfikaenfgaeojiodaBOOK!"

I think she says old london. Anyway. This is the only version of Landslide that can make me cry. Sooooo emotional. Stevie sounds so broken However I love it.

I always thought so too, except I thought she said "Linden"...as a alternate nickname for Lindsey.
