Linda Ronstadt Escorted Out of Club After Own Show

Linda Ronstadt apparently got what she wanted -- to be 86'd from the Aladdin.

In a bizarre performance notable for its bridge-burning comments, Ronstadt inflamed more than her Aladdin audience on Saturday by taking potshots at Las Vegas and dedicating "Desperado" to "Fahrenheit 9/11" filmmaker Michael Moore.

When her show was over, the Aladdin had her checked out of her room and escorted off the premises.

Many walked out during the show, one concertgoer tossed a cocktail on her poster, others defaced her posters and the box office was "a mob scene" of people seeking refunds, according to an Aladdin spokeswoman.

"It's amazing how ugly it got," said Tyri Squyres, director of public relations at the Aladdin.

Ronstadt was a one-woman heat wave.

"To be clear, the Aladdin does not condone the comments made by Ms. Ronstadt," Squyres said by e-mail. "Ms. Ronstadt was hired to entertain the guests of the Aladdin, not to espouse her political views. Following her performance she was escorted out of the hotel and immediately checked out of her room. And she will not be welcomed back."

In an interview with the R-J's Mike Weatherford before the show, Ronstadt said with a laugh: "I keep hoping that if I'm annoying enough to them, they won't hire me back."

I love Linda, even though she has gotten very eccentric in the past few years. This story just cracks me up.

Wait, does that mean she thought 9/11 was crap? As in "come to your senses" Michael Moore? Or the opposite? I always thought she was liberal.

She dedicated another song called "Get Out of Town" to Bush, then praised Fahrenheit 9/11. She was dedicating "Desperado" to Moore about the Rethugs.

Oh, okay. That was my initial thought. I love her again...lol. This just goes back to what Elton John said about the problem with speaking out.

Now I need to go buy every one of Linda's albums -- I think we already have one with her spanish songs, which is really good. Off to the Best Buy.

Yeah, that would have made more sense.

I love Linda too, and she has become more outspoken about the things that piss her off in recent years. She is as candid as it gets when you get her going in an interview, however, she rarely gives them anymore. I hear she lives basically as a recluse these days in Tuscon with her kids. Her voice is still as amazing as ever, I'd love to see her live.

Regardless if she was a Rethug, I'd still love her because she can sing her ass off. But judging from the known Rethugs in the entertainment industry, I really never cared for any of them even before I knew their politics.

Ahnuld? Nope. Bruce Willis? Nope. Bo Derek? Hell no. Loretta Lynn is really the only exception, but I question how much of a Rethug she is. After all, she's famous for pioneering the womens lib movement within the country scene and she sang songs about The Pill.

Now, if oyu want to take it up with Republicans and conservatives, that's okay by me. You have pundits like Scarborough, O'Reilly, and Hannity who CONDEMN Hollywood liberals and really spew hate towards them, but then invite Hollywood conservatives on their shows and kiss their asses about how patriotic they are. Gimme a break. Can we say hypocrite?

Linda has always been outspoken. But lately she's been largely worshipped by an older generation of fans, and not the rock & rollers. Here's Linda speaking up on the lastest flap.

I think she has a right to say whatever she wants politically, and believe the audience is way out of control. Hopefully she will make her point soon. I think it would be cool if those here could go if only to support her right to speak out.
