Default Spaciest Songs

Hi,
this might not make alot of sense, but let's list, our oppinions on each member's "Spaciest" Song

IMO Isn't It Midnight for Chris -The whole song doesn't make sense, like I have no clue what it's about... "You had a style...
I don't see how the chorus fits with the song.... but that's just me

Stevie- Rock A Little and The Nightmare

Lindsey- Walk A Thin Line,Miranda, and Tusk

Any other oppinions... I'll post others as I think of them

WHOLE LOTTA TROUBLE!!! I've tried for years to understand what this song is about. Also, Edge of 17 is pretty out there, as is Nightbird. I remember reading (I believe on SaraRhiannon's site) that Stevie wrote Nightbird with hopes that people would hear it and want to go out and find a cure for cancer, and I thought, "who would listen to this song and even think about that?" So many others that I don't completely get, like I understand the concept behind Sable on Blond, but I don't get some of the lyrics. And Greta, I absolutely do not understand the first lines to Greta. "Rhinestone collections all the time..." ?!? Although I do understand the rest of the song. Stevie seems to have toned down the obscurity lately, as Lindsey has become more obscure. Peacekeeper still seems a bit spacy to me, as well as Miranda.

I'd have to say "Mystified" for Christine. It just sounds like something she'd whisper in front of the mirror or something.

Default spacey

guess I get to be the space cadet (not surprising as some of my friends would say) b/c I actually make sense out of those Stevie songs listed (A Whole Lotta Trouble was the song running through my head when contemplating my last relationship, as in it was going to be a Whole Lotta trouble for ME).
But anyways...
Stevie: Sable on Blonde, ummm it just passes me by...
Chris: All the stuff I have heard sounds pretty normal to me (though my familiarity w/ Tango and Mirage is limited.
Lindsey: a good portion of his songs leave me going ummmm, yeah, especially Miranda (love the groove could do w/o the lyrics), Red Rover, and Family Man (timing anyone, plus this is the one FM song I can't stand!?).

Stevie...mmm...Garbo

Lindsey...Caroline or Miranda

Christine...cant think of one for her. Hers are usually a little in the middle compared to Lindsey and Stevie's stuff. Maybe "mystified"

For Stevie, Edge of 17 and Running Through the Garden take the cake. Fab songs, but just try understanding them if you aren't a die-hard fan.

For Lindsey, Red Rover.

For Christine, I have no idea.

I think Tusk makes mighty good sense when you realize the word is a euphemism.

I have trouble understanding a lot of Stevie's songs. But that doesn't bother me anymore. I'll just ask Johnny Stew for an explanation now. Though most of the stuff seems to have a certain logic that is hard to explain.

Lindsey has several songs that don't really make a lot of sense, Caroline being a perfect example. He was just rhyme-happy with that one. But I like the song a lot anyway.

As for Christine, I've never gotten into her lyrics much. I just like to hear the stuff.

Stevie - probably "Gold Dust Woman" - great song, but it is "out there."

Also, "Sister of the Moon" the whole I saw myself in the mirror - thin and pale and then asked my alter self to be my sister of the moon and help me make it and be strong so I do not die theme is a space trip that made a great song particularly live and, IMHO an even better paino demo.

LB - Family Man - space trip, and "Miranda" - who knows what he talking about in this one, though I love it.

CM - probably none. She is a straight forward writer. But, if I had to pick, I would say "Behind the Mask."

Interestingly, if you hadn't specified lyrics, I would have gone with Gypsy. Of all FM songs, it is the most "spacy" in a very ethereal, lovely way.

I can never get sick of that song. I even used a slight variation of the chord progression for one of my own songs.

Allow me to be of some assistance. Isn't It Midnight is another ode to the Dennis Wilson years. "You had a style, a rakish style, Well my poor heart never connected, you'd stay so long on my mind..." refers to him. He had quite a reputation. "Isn't it midnight on the other side of the world? Do you remember the face of a pretty girl?" It's pretty sad, actually. She's wondering if he thinks about her on the other side. JMHO.

Exactly. You have to listen to the back story to understand EO17, I mean there are like three different narratives going on in that song, it's a crazy web, web that is her own of course. I think EO17 is pretty spacey, I also think RAL is ultra spacey, I mean Stevie sounds like she's on the brink of passing out or something, she sounds tired and worn out, although I love the vocal anyway.
