Default a message from alex (greatdarkwing)

I just talked to Alex on the phone, and he wanted me to get on here and post about what happened to him yesterday. He just got out of the hospital after slicing open the back of his leg from knee all the way down his calf (I think that is what he said...he sounded heavily medicated). Anyways was in surgery for 2 hours, they had to clamp his muscles? Sorry, we talked for like 2 minutes and he wasn't all there. So he will be in a wheel chair for 2 weeks. ANd he told me to post to all of you that he misses you and will talk soon.

Thanks Becky. I got the news about a half hour ago. Today has been just bad news. I just found out that one of my best friend's father passed away today, too
I'll have to talk to Alex later tonight. What an awful thing to have to go through.
I'll have to send him a nice package in the mail.

Hey there everyone!

First off, thank you for all the get well wishes from EVERYONE. i was teary-eyed sitting here reading them. The last 48 hours have been testing to say the least and appreciate everyone's concern.

Sunday night, I walked into the garage (without the light on, lesson learned) and I forgot there was an empty fish tank I had finished cleaning on the floor. Needless to say, I ended up walking RIGHT THROUGH the fish tank. It was dark, and I felt no pain. I felt warmth on my lef, and I realized what I had done. Well, I ran in screaming and my mom, who is a doctor, covered the wound and was crying b/c she thought i hit an artery. There was enough blood on the floor to sicken the average person. Well, by midnight I was rushed to the local hospital, where they determined the cut (6 inches long and 1 and 1/2 inches deep diagonally down my left calf) was too big to be taken care of in the ER. They called in a surgeon and had me x-rayed to make sure there was no glass in my wound. From there I went into the OR, where I was knocked out. Turns out, the cut missed EVERYTHING MAJOR and the doctor says that if lightning only strikes once, I should never play the lottery again, cause I got my second chance. If the glass had hit the artery, God knows if I'd be here at all, or without my leg.

I was released from the hospital last night, and I am at home now. I am wheel-chair bound for the next week, then I start physical therapy and a run with my crutches. There is 100% recovery expected in 2 months, but until then it will be a slow process. All in all, I am very thankful to just be alive and have my leg! God knows it could have been alot worse.

Now part of my worry is, that I'm down to about 190 pounds from 255 in Nov, so I have to watch my diet to make sure I dont gain any weight from being confined in the wheelchair...but right now thats probably the least of my worries. I just hope my last 3 months of dedication can hold out a little longer.

I'll keep you guys up to date in my recovery, nd I appreciate the well wishes! Thnak you guys so much for all those kind words. You have no idea how much happiness they brought me!

Much love to you all, and Im thinking about ALL of you,
~Alex
