Default Wuthering Heights

Because some of you bitches talk up Kate Bush, I decided to explore her music more. I always did like her, especially Running Up that Hill, however, I never eplored to much. I just discovered Wuthering Heights. I love, love, love, love this song. However, I wish there was a remastered or definitive version. of it. Itunes basically only has one album version from her. This song is great but I was wondering if there was a definitive version of this.

The definitive version has to be the 1986 re-recorded version, imo

Yes, there is a definitive version. And it's
sung by Pat Benatar.

And I think Peter and Kate were great on
Don't Give Up.

As a Kate fan, I really hate to say it, but I agree--probably because I heard Pat's version first. I was a kid and had been a Pat fan for years when I finally heard the original. I will never forget how horrified I was by this weird, yelpy chick. I honestly wasn't sure whether she was joking!

I finally came around on Kate, but never on Withering Heights!

That version of Wuthering Heights is from The Whole Story - a singles collection Kate released in 1986 and re-recorded this vocal for it. It's a great collection and the album is still widely available.

I'm a big Kate fan. I'd recommend all her albums in general but here's a list of my favourite individual tracks:

Wuthering Heights (The Kick Inside/The Whole Story)
The Man With The Child In His Eyes (The Kick Inside/The Whole Story)
James and the Cold Gun (The Kick Inside)
Kite (The Kick Inside)
December Will Be Magic Again (single only - a lovely Christmas song)
Babooshka (Never For Ever/The Whole Story)
The Wedding List (Never For Ever)
Wow (Lionheart/The Whole Story)
Sat In Your Lap (The Dreaming/The Whole Story)
Cloudbusting (Hounds Of Love/The Whole Story)
Hounds Of Love (Hounds of Love/The Whole Story)
Running Up That Hill (Hounds of Love/The Whole Story)
Don't Give Up (with Peter Gabriel) (So - Peter Gabriel)
Experiment IV (The Whole Story)
Rocket Man (Elton John Cover) (Two Rooms: A Tribute To Elton John and Bernie Taupin)
Love and Anger (The Sensual World)
This Woman's Work (The Sensual World)
The Sensual World (The Sensual World)
Depper Understanding (The Sensual World)
Eat The Music (The Red Shoes)
Rubberband Girl (The Red Shoes)
Moments of Pleasure (The Red Shoes)
King Of The Mountain (Aerial)
Sexual Healing (yes - a very random cover!) (B-side of King Of The Mountain single, on itunes)
Mrs Bartolozzi (Aerial)
Pi (Aerial)
How To Be Invisible (Aerial)
A Coral Room (Aerial)
Flower Of The Mountain (re-recorded version of The Sensual World) (Director's Cut)
Deeper Understanding (re-recorded version) (Director's Cut)

Phew!

The Director's Cut consists of re-recorded versions of songs from The Sensual World and The Red Shoes so I haven't listed much from that. Some of the tracks from that album are very much an acquired taste. For example I'm not keen on what she did with This Woman's Work, which was perfect as it was, and especially the new version of Rubberband Girl which I just think doesn't work.

I haven't listened to her new album, 50 Words For Snow, enough to select individual tracks yet.

I've just re-read this list and I love it. I may have to make a compilation!

I think Pat's version did not have the pathos that Kate's did at all.Kate really captured the character of Catherine Earnshaw in the song.Pat's sounds more sterile IMO and with a very dated Mike Chapman production.Kate's version is much more timeless.Kate like Stevie almost always does their own work better than others cover it.

How about this version though?? LOVE it! It's so unexpected and you've gotta love the spoken part (very fitting!) and some good old audience aprticipation!
