I LOVE this outtake! I never listen to this version just once, always have to put it on repeat. Great, bluesy piano.

Since this is the Hold Me Thread...I got a question.

#1. On the commercially released version...who sings the kinda low male part..."come on and" "why don't you"? Does anybody know what I'm talking about???

(I always thought it was a drunk ?? Mick or John ??? )

#2. Has she ever perfomed this song live?

Thnx,
T.D.

1. That low voice on the album version is definitely Lindsey. I have a Mirage era interview with Chris & she confirmed it. He used a little studio trickery to change his vocal.

2. They did perform "Hold Me" live on the Mirage tour. Chris also performed it live on her 1984 solo tour.

FM definitely performed "Hold Me" during the 'Mirage' tour. I saw that tour at the old Boston Garden in Boston, Mass. and I specifically remember the song. There's a short piano solo in the middle of the song -- they played it in concert much the same as it is on the record. When Chris played that solo, the crowd roared so loud you'd think the roof was about to fly off, and I'll never forget the look on Chris' face; she had a big, happy smile.

I sometimes think of that crowd reaction to Chris's piano solo, and wish that Christine's piano playing had always been featured in Fleetwood Mac recordings and performances as prominently as it was at that moment.

I totally agree. Except for "Hold Me", "Don't Stop"(during the Rumours, Tusk & Mirage tours) and "Stop Messin' Around" on the BTM tour, I don't think they let her have any real piano solos on any Fleetwood Mac tour, at least after 1975.

I seriously doubt that it was a situation where "they let her"...I think she felt assertive enough to TAKE solos on those songs. If you read interviews of hers, she seems to always make a point of mentioning that she feels more a part of the rhythm section than a soloist; and even said that she doesn't fancy taking solos. So, that she DID take on those songs makes them pretty special.

Yeah, I know she's always considered herself as being part of the rhythm section. Still, she did seem to have fun with that "Stop Messin' Around" solo, especially.

I wonder if Christine got to play more keyboard solos in live performances during the Bob Welch years. Her keyboard playing was much more prominent on the recordings from that era. "Homeward Bound" for example is pretty much all keyboards, and her keyboard was the principal musical accompaniment on some of Bob's songs too, like "The Ghost" for example.

I love this demo, thank you.

As for piano solos, I love her work on the upright piano on 'Not That Funny' from the Mirage video. She runs across the stage to the other side and bangs away on it. So cool.
