Default Live Say You Love Me-Stevie Off Key?

Has anyone else noticed that Stevie's harmony on Say You Love Me from the Live album is, erm, a bit off? It's the part: "when the lovin' starts and the lights go down/and there's not another living soul around/you woo me until the sun comes up and you say that you love me" that sounds off key to me. Has anyone else noticed this, or am I becoming hard of hearing now that I've turned 30? Perhaps it's the live recording, but Lindsey's and Chris's harmonies blend beautifully and Stevie's voice is just stuck out there like a sore thumb--no blend. Any thoughts?

Pffffff! What's up with this? Why would they release this with such a bad vocal from Stevie? Couldn't they use a different performance of this song? They must've had something else they could've used from this tour.

It is awkward for me. I think she is trying to hit it and does for a second, but then misses it. That being said, she still sounds okay and better than most today. I also think CM was off in that song, which rarely happens.

And - they had so many good recordings where all three are spot on. Why they chose that one is beyond me.

Now if you want to hear Christine "off"...listen to the second disc of the Madison Blues box set.

Give a good listen to "Outside the Rain" in the US Festival some time.
GREAT performance, but "on-key" it was not.

Oh yes, that has bugged me from the first time I heard it and still does. It ruins a good song, damnit.

There is good off-key ...

And there is bad off-key ...

There is good ...

And there is bad ...

Good vs. evil.

(okay, I just don't have the live album).
Maybe she's right, and Linds and Chris are wrong. *snicker*

It's the same on most of the bootlegs from that I time. I'm not sure why she was always given the high part that she couldn't seem to master. On The Dance she seems to finally realize she can't sing that high and takes a lower part...and it sounds good.

Whatever...still love SYLM live for the guitar solo. It just makes you feel good inside.

Stevie's a little flat, yes. But throughout the years on that song, she was always a little flat on that chorus harmony. Finally, in 1987, she dropped her part to the other harmony & did okay with it. But why do people point out all these little flat singing moments? All three of them singers were often flat or slightly off-key. It didn't ruin anything, usually. Often, it made the band more interesting.

I could buy that! No, seriously, the instruments--like the bass & piano--give you the correct tonic, so all you need to do is compare the human voice in question with the instrumental tonic. At this particular point in SYLM, Stevie's the off gal.

But lemme tell ya ... I bet back in 1977 when that was taped, Stevie was LOOKIN' good, lemme tell ya. All eyes on her. She was a whirling dervish, engaging her muse & (as you once said) flinging her body heedlessly.

Ok...I'm listening to this now!

I think its safe to say that Chris is not the one off key...

Stevie however...OMG...REALLY off key. I had never really picked up on this until you pointed it out.
