Favorite Soundtracks?
Maybe this thread has been done before, I don't know, but in any case -
What are everyone's favorite movie soundtracks? Here are my top five - 1. She's the One - the movie was awful. Absolute crap. But any soundtrack that has nothing but Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (featuring backing vocals by LB on three tracks) has to top my list. 2. A Mighty Wind - Sure, this movie was all about poking fun at Folk music, but in the process they sure made some great folk tunes. Especially love the tracks by "The Folksmen" who, oddly enough, are the very same guys who played "Spinal Tap." 3. With Honors - Great movie. LOVED Patrick Dempsey in that one. And the soundtrack is really good and has everything from Duran Duran, to Lyle Lovett, to Lindsey Buckingham. 4. Gladiator - LOVE the movie. I normally don't like classical-type music, but the instrumentals on this are superb. 5. Wonder Boys - the movie sucked. OMG it was awful. However, the soundtrack is fantastic. Bob Dylans "Things Have Changed" is one hell'va catchy tune, and Leonard Cohen's "Waiting for the Miracle" is wonderful as well. Also has tracks by John Lennon, Neil Young, and more. Honorable Mentions: Clay Pigeons and The Big Lebowski Last edited by Miss Vicky; 02-19-2005 at 01:32 PM.. |

I don't usually pay attention to whole soundtracks, but some of the ones mentioned are great. The only soundtrack I've ever bought was the soundtrack to Last of the Mohicans Guess I should start paying more attention.

Hayley, you RAWK!! \m/
What are some of your favorite soundtracks from earlier decades? Have you heard Franz Waxman's sinister score for James Whale's "Bride of Frankenstein"? I love it. Another favorite of mine is Georges Auric's score for Jack Clayton's "The Innocents."

Just some, not in order:
The Thin Red Line- Not a huge fan of Hans Zimmer, but he did wonders with it The fisher King - Red Knight Suite by George Fenton is just amazing The Twelve Monkeys - Astor Piazzolla's music always get to my heart The Man With The Golden Arm - Elmer Bernstein and some great jazzmen Lost In Translation/The Virgin Suicides - Sofia Coppola always chooses some of the most innovative and interesting bands and musicians around Black Orpheus - Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luis Bonfa cast a spell with their bossanovas Short Cuts - Annie Ross... an angel. Practical Magic - Well... yes, especially for Stevie. La vie et rien d'autre - not only because it's my favourite movie The Hours - Philip Glass' gem, even in his excesses Round Midnight - Tavernier is a director who loves jazz, and created a masterpiece with this soundtrack Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence - David Bowie as leading actor and Ryuichi Sakamoto' s tracks... so beautiful Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - Tan Dun is one of the best living composers IMO In the Mood Of Love - I love all soundtracks of Wong Kar-wai's movies, but this one is really great, especially for Shigeru Umebayashi's theme and Nat King Cole Romy

Have you ever heard it, Romy? Is it worth the money? One of the DVD editions of the film (I only own the VHS) includes Glass' score as an alternate soundtrack, but that's always expensive, too!
