Default The official Ryan Adams appreciation thread

Many moons ago, I bought an album called Strangers Almanec by Whiskeytown in a record sale for a £1 because I had heard the band mentioned alongside The Jayhawks, who at the time were my favourite band.

I've been a huge fan of Ryan Adams ever since, although I did go off him a little during his Rock N Roll period (that said Love Is Hell came out at the same time and that's superb)

I think Heartbreaker is still my favourite album, but this year Cold Roses and Jacksonville City Nights have reconfirmed my faith in him, and they are probably my favourite albums of 2005.

C'mon, I know there are loads of Ryan fans on here now, come forth and declare your fandom!

Default Hurrah

I first discovered Ryan in this rad little record store near my house. I was there buying a bunch of CD's, and randomly picked up Gold. I think that was back in 2002. I tend to buy music I've never heard of, like that, I've discovered some great artists that way. Anyway, I've since purchased every album Ryan has put out, though I only have one Whiskeytown album, Pneumonia. I can honestly say I seriously love all of his albums. Yes, I even love most of Rock N Roll. I think Ryan is a unique and talented, creative, and amazing artist. He's definitely been my favorite for years now.

I really can't pick a favorite album. A favorite song is hard as well, there are just so many that blow me away.

I first discovered Ryan Adams less than a week ago after the high praise bestowed upon him by the likes of Sharon. I caved and bought his new album, which I am totally loving. I ordered some other ones and should get them in two or three days. That is all for now.

Yeah, mine too.

Ryan Adams is in my top five favorite artists. I've loved him since Whiskeytown. And it doesn't hurt that he's a North Carolina boy, either.

Some of my favorite songs are:

Oh My Sweet Carolina
Dear Chicago
Somehow, Someday
Come Pick Me Up
This House Is Not For Sale
When the Stars Go Blue
La Cienega Just Smiled

Well, the list could go on and on. He's amazing. Period.

I have Jeane and Always On My Mind (both are amazing, btw), but I don't have the other one. I can't wait to hear it!

I ordered Heartbreaker, Gold, Demolition, and Cold Roses.

Hopefully they're good, I didn't get Rock N Roll because I didn't read good things about it.

I have Gold, Demolition, and Rock N' Roll. I don't like Demolition and Rock N' Roll is just meh. But I love Gold. So what albums would you recommend that are more like Gold and less like the others?

I love Heartbreaker, but I thought I had sort of played it out, and then my son (at 1 year) got into it, and now I hear it atl ealst twice a day, for the last year. He calls it "2/3" for the count in after the argument with David Rawlings. The album really holds up, because I still sing along with every song!

I think I got Heartbreaker after my Brother in Law played Sweet Carolina for me on his guitar. He told me he went ot a show here in SF where someone in the audience kept yelling for him to play "Cuts Like a Knife" and he wasn't amused.

I meant who should start the thread about everyone's favorite albums of 2005, dude.

I would suggest listening to them in this order: Heartbreaker, Cold Roses, Demolition.

Oh and let me know what you think!
Thanks for the advice. You're the expert, so that's how I'll listen to them. I'll definitely let you know what i think. If they're as good as his new one, I'll be a happy camper.

I think that count in was what attracted him, cuz he used to make me loop that. I am know I shouldn't be letting him sing along with "Come Pick Me Up" but that is one of my favorites on the album.

Oh, excellent. Love is Hell is really good too, I could send you a few tracks from that and some of the good ones from Rock N Roll, if you decide you'd like to hear more Ryan. RNR is fairly maligned but there are still some tracks of worth on it.

Also, a lot of people seem to dislike Demolition, which I find puzzling. Some of Ryan's most beautiful songs are on it. i.e. Desire & Dear Chicago...

I must admit, I can never tell if you're being playful or sarcastic. I hope it's the former.
Bring out the stick!!

I can't understand that, either. Demolition is a great record. The only track I skip is Jesus (Don't Touch My Baby).
