There's also the fact that he's old, he's been in that band for the majority of his adult life, put a hell of a lot of work into it, has his whole musical legacy tied up in there and so what's happened is probably a disaster/very emotionally traumatizing.
Yes, I totally understand he spent most of his life with this people and he's indeed hurt because, unlike them, he has feelings. That's why I can't understand him, and no matter if they welcome him with open arms, it will never be the same.

And if it is, then it wasn't as bad as they made us believe in the first place.
