Neil is viewed as a very capable rhythm guitarist. However I don't know if he's ever seriously worked alongside a lead guitarist this caliber.
In Australia at least, the 'pub rock' scene of 70s and 80s tended towards 'no frills' hard driven riffs rather than extended, complex lead solos.
Our top guitarists are probably Angus Young, Tommy Emmanuel, Ian Moss. That perhaps sums it up.
