When the show is about music — Crowe's conceit is that the opening bands keep falling off the tour, which allows him to highlight The Head and the Heart, Reignwolf and
Lindsey Buckingham — as openers, it clicks even though these acts might not be for everyone (which is a risk that music series face). Same when the roadies play a "song of the day" — which runs from Frightened Rabbit to Gary Clark Jr.
