I always wonder when John said “we’re a blues band, you know” in 1975 if that was sarcasm that went over everyone’s head. Nothing on the 1975 was any softer or less bluesy than other songs in their catalog. It’s not as if “Sentimental Lady” and “Come A Little Bit Closer” were boogie rock.
