*defending root canals across the world* they really arent' as bad as their reputation. and sometimes you can just have trauma to a tooth that can make it need root canal treatment-(blow to the face, breaking the tooth while eating hard candy..etc) but MOST of the time....the reason root canals are so painful is because people have let them go for so long, they get a huge abcess and there is so much infection that they are not able to get numb from the anesthesia. Which sometimes you would just put them on an antibiotic. My boss did a root canal treatment on my tooth 2 days before my wedding and it was fine. Now..there are SOME instances where they are painful for no reason, but if you catch it in time...hopefully things will go smoothly. So if you ever need one, just let them use some valium or Nitrous..and you'll be just fine
