In some cases, though, I think the training actually emboldened her. Take "Silver Springs"; I don't think she would have dared try to hit the high notes in the verse a few years before "The Dance."
In my opinion, her worst singing days were 1989-1993, when she not only didn't take risks, but didn't even sound good playing it safe. She couldn't sing a note in tune to save her life on the BTM and Timespace tours.
