Park Theater at Monte Carlo opens with performances by music icons

MGM Resorts International’s Park Theater located on the casino level (southeast corner) of the Monte Carlo Las Vegas Resort & Casino celebrated its grand opening on Saturday night.

Situated alongside MGM’s $100 million Park entertainment district on the Las Vegas Strip, which opened this year on April 4, the live entertainment venue’s milestone event was inaugurated by performances by renowned rock group The Pretenders and legendary singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks, according to the PRNewswire press release.

After guests were treated to two of The Pretenders most beloved songs; “Back On the Chain Gang,” and “I’ll Stand By You,” Nicks, who prior to taking the stage was presented with an honorary key to the theater, welcomed the sold-out crowd to the new Park Theater. Starting a tradition for future performers there, Nicks whose performance included an unexpected duet with The Pretenders’ lead singer and founding member Chrissie Hynde, commemorated the unveiling by autographing a backstage wall. The performance by the two rock and roll icons concluded with an encore of Nicks’ classic, “Landslide,” which was dedicated to Resorts’ executives Richard Sturm and Bill Hornbuckle for extending the invitation to Nicks to be Park Theater’s first headliner and a “part of history,” according to the release.

The Park Theater’s premier is the first step in the transformation of the Monte Carlo, which will take place over the next two years and will include two unique hotel experiences; the launch of Park MGM, a new luxury hotel, and a Las Vegas version of the NoMad Hotel, Sydell Group’s famed New York, NY property. According to the press release, along with fully redesigned guest rooms, each of the new hotels will feature unique food and beverage offerings.

Future performances at Park Theater include Bruno Mars, who will take the stage on New Year’s Weekend (30-31 December), along with a slew of renowned artists who are slated to perform at the 5,200-seat theater in 2017. MGM’s new entertainment venue will also host sporting events including boxing and MMA, among others.

The opening of the Park Theater furthers MGM Resorts’ strategy to continue the evolution of Las Vegas’ entertainment landscape by providing people from all over with up close and personal exposure to celebrated athletes and performing artists.

The stage at the theater is a staggering 40 feet tall by 140 feet wide, a full 20 feet wider than the stage at the Colosseum, which is Park Theater’s chief competitor.
