Hi Christy,
You just hold down the ALT key on your keyboard, and use the
number pad (*not* the number keys above your letters) to type 132, for the ä, and 148 for the ö.
Play around with it, and type other number combinations... you'll find all kinds of cool characters.
Like this one.... ¿ (alt + 168)
Or try using 4-digit numbers beginning with a zero, and you'll get characters like the "registered trademark" symbol.... ® (alt + 0174) or the section sign.... § (alt +0167)
