I'm curious to know about licensing/copyright issues. There are the official remixes, sanctioned by artists. And then there are numerous other remixes. Are all these legally proper? Is there some loop hole where these other versions are allowed to be created and circulated?
Remixed tracks that are not commissioned/authorized technically infringe on the rights of the copyright holder. It doesn't matter if the tracks are being sold or distributed for free, since both could potentially interfere with the copyright holder's ability to generate income from their work.

Except in very rare cases, labels no longer pursue legal action action "white label" or "bootleg" remixes.

In regard to the artwork, I design 95% of what appears in this thread because I can't stand seeing a blank space intended for artwork on my iPod or iTunes, etc.
