Dennis Wilson Biopic Scores Vera Farmiga as Fleetwood Mac Singer By Jeremy Gordon
January 31, 2012

Unfortunately for your favorite Tumblr, she won't be Stevie Nicks. Instead, Vera Farmiga will play Christine McVie, Fleetwood Mac's singer-songwriter-keyboardist, in The Drummer, an upcoming biopic about troubled Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson. The movie will follow the six years of Wilson's relationship with McVie, climaxing with his untimely death in 1983. He'll be played by Aaron Eckhart, an intriguing casting decision considering he isn't typically on call for the tortured hippie genius roles, instead usually playing the WASP-y dudes you love/hate to hate/love.

The movie, co-produced by Wilson's children, will begin filming in the summer. Director Randall Miller told Variety that Farmiga, a classically trained pianist, will get a chance to rock the Mac's finest ballads. "She has a number of duets with Eckhart in the film," he said. "The combination of Aaron and Vera will be pure magic." I'm betting there will be a cathartic performance of "Hold Me," the '83 Fleetwood hit that was written by McVie about Wilson. You can watch that delightfully wacky music video below (riding white horses in the desert is categorically the most excessive thing ever).
