Rick never makes any excuse for being a working musician, he goes where the work is to support his family/lifestyle. The reason he moved from Maui was because there just wasn't enough work to support him.
Although he's a brilliant guitarist, he's usually just a guitarist in a band, not the name in lights.
Plus, touring with a tribute band is no different to touring with MFBB (which was pretty much a tribute band).
