Not that it helps a
whole lot, but this might lead away from the assumption that the dog was reference to the movie dog. (from Pontiac, MI 1992 Radio Show):
LB: [performs Holiday Road]
DJ: It was great to hear you do the dog, by the way
LB: Well you know...
DJ: Who's dog was that?
LB: It was a little inside joke actually...
DJ: Yeah?
LB: People going "What the..?"
[changing topics]
They didn't say a lot about it, but I'd tend to believe the dog was independant from the movie from that...
