I actually felt that was an intentional decision, so that fans can still bring their own interpretations to the songs without her putting it all into black & white.

Truth be told, it always dims my enjoyment of a song when I have in my mind exactly what I think it means, and then find out it's about the songwriter's dog or something. I'd rather not know and have that little bit of mystery.
