I agree Peter was one of the most tasteful and restrained guitarist, but as a
composition GM is , I believe, a proto heavy metal song (interesting to know whether Paranoid came first ??!!,),and so in this particular case, Peter's guitar playing ,in the rhythm bits (even if he didn't play all of them on stage -he did invent them ) are very heavy rock .
Where the heavy metal bands covering it go disasterously wrong is that they think faster is "heavier ",and loose the spookiness ,and anguish of it ,which is why the Marvins, who I know nothing at all about ,have made a fair stab at it .I quite like their version- a little bit
too slow at points for me - but very unsettling and interesting .
