I personally disagree, I don't think the Eagles are at all in the same realm as the Stones or any of those bands. In terms of great bands I think Eagles are on pretty much the same tier as FM, Heartbreakers maybe in similar tier as well.
But the thing win the Eagles is that although they sold well, they're pretty heavily criticized especially in more recent years for not really growing at all musically. And of course that scene in Big Lebowski kind of kickstarted the "I hate the Eagles" thing.
