Another year playing casinos and fairs milking the old hits made famous by the original singer? It really is just a paycheck at that point. If Fleetwood Mac wants to "survive" and tour with strange new members, milking old hits made famous by the departed, it is just a paycheck. No interest to me. Those who find it interesting are in luck, certainly — but I wonder whether they're kidding themselves.
When this first hit, Journey was the first thing I kept thinking of. I mean, it's not AS bad considering Steve Perry's voice essentially became Journey in the public's mind whereas Fleetwood Mac has three vocalists who the public general associates with the band. BUT, it's the same concept. We're going to hire people to fill in for the guy who you associate with these songs. In the Eagles case, it's bad enough, but Glen died (and while I think Don Felder got the shaft, he wasn't to the Eagles what Lindsey was to Fleetwood Mac...music to Hotel California and all). Back to Journey, I cringe as hard as possible when I see what they're out doing today. It's awful. It sounds like karaoke. I've turned down several opportunities to see them despite the fact that I lose my voice trying to hit every note on Don't Stop Believing at every wedding I have attended for the last 15 years. Watching two guys who have no association with the Fleetwood Mac book of work try to replicate the music that Lindsey wrote, produced, arranged...while Lindsey sits down the road fully capable of being there...meh, not interested.
