Access like this to original “contemporary” articles allows us to see where Celmins drew much of his material from (uncredited) –
I found Green’s comments about ‘Oh Well’ particularly interesting – his disappointment that people did not understand his intent with the number –
It seems as if the riff is simply too overpowering – I think it is safe to say that that is what has drawn the wide range of cover versions over the years – not the song’s “message” – it would be interesting to see if anyone could come up with an arrangement, and more importantly, a vocal approach to highlight Green’s original idea
