Lindsey was playing at a fundraiser for a democratic candidate. He would need to say SOMETHING to the crowd, and he was on-message for the event. He also made it clear that a big reason he was there was that he was asked by Cameron Crow, the director, with whom he is good friends and he says "I would do anything for Cameron". You know, loyalty.

Not to mention that Lindsey's made his political views loud and clear before (dedicating Treason to George Bush for example) so really it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that at this political event, he made political statements that revealed his political leanings.
