Stevie Nicks, Pretenders At Mohegan

I may be living in my own little bubble these days — and who could blame me? — but I think that the music of Fleetwood Mac is only growing in people's estimations. The recordings in question span styles and decades, from the late '60s blues rock to the early '80s soft pop. Some music ages poorly, some pop just keeps getting sweeter and better.

Stevie Nicks, of course, had a career before Fleetwood Mac. (She and Lindsay Buckingham had a duo that landed them the gig.) And she's had a notable solo career apart from the band, making big duets with people like Tom Petty and Don Henley. But she's known for her mega-hits with Fleetwood Mac, and when people think of that band, though it famously had many lineup changes throughout the years, they think of the Buckingham/Nicks iteration of it, which dominated the second half of the '70s. The band's famously knotted romantic entanglements add to the story.

Fleetwood Mac's "Mirage" got a deluxe re-issue earlier this year. It was the band's first record of the '80s, and a close listen reveals that the members were still in top form then, even if the hits weren't as indelible.

Nicks is partly known for her witchy stage persona, the lace and veils and whirling moves, but her singing is what's special, that mix of country twang, rock grit and sweet sensitivity. She's got plenty of proud confidence and bad-ass attitude but loads of emotional shading. She's a legend.

Stevie Nicks, and the Pretenders (rock originals as well), play Mohegan Sun Arena, Mohegan Sun Arena, 1 Mohegan Sun Blvd., Uncasville, Friday, Nov. 25, at 7 p.m. $69 to $89. 860-226-7711 and mohegansun.com.
