I've just seen on the news a report about Italian Sounding. It was strange to hear about cappuccino during or at the end of the meal, pesto everywhere, marinara everywhere, pasta as a side dish and strange versions of carbonara and ragł alla bolognese that frankly are almost hygienically alarming (I mean the egg).
I imagine it's a mirror of the fake americanization happening here, in which everything that comes from America is cool and hip, even those things probably shunned by Americans themselves and that find a make-shift or second-best audience here.
