I am a big fan of Lindsey, so please don't take this the wrong way.

While he obviously has a great deal of technical skill, there are two things his guitar playing sorely lacks:

1. vision
2. intensity

With even a modicum of either of these qualities, he could rightfully be called an underrated guitarist.

But his lacking them is the very reason he isn't rated more highly.

Now don't get me wrong. Skill is important – but so is inventiveness, and so is passion.

And no one – not even Lindsey Buckingham – can fake those or phone them in.
