Here’s my review of the show:
My husband and I flew from Canada for this show. We booked a loft for the weekend, only a block from the Orpheus, through Air BNB and it’s really nice. Big, new, clean, full new kitchen, close to grocery stores, restaurants, etc.
The meet and greet was before the show, and we were asked to be there at 6pm. We got there at about 5:50 and there was a bit of a lineup forming. By 6 pm, the lineup was quite substantial. We were told there were 42/62 people attending the meet n greet (my husband and I heard different numbers). At 6:10 they opened the doors and slowly started letting people in. We stopped at a desk by the front door and picked up our gear, got our wristbands and headed in. Another line to wait in before escorting us upstairs. Where we waited in a line again. The fellow taking the pictures came by and said “no autographs and no phone pictures allowed.” Which was quite funny because the first person in line handed Lindsey a Sharpie and a couple of album covers, which he promptly signed.
They moved through the people quite quickly, basically calling them over, he said hello and then they took the picture and moved you out. I could hear a couple of his laughs, and they sounded so great!
My turn comes up, and I walk up to him, grinning like a buffoon. He says “Hi there.” I said “hey Lindsey, can’t believe I finally get to meet you!” He said something like, “Oh ya?” He giggled. The guy says “smile” and then “NEXT” which was my husband. I move over, my husband and him say their niceties, and then my husband says “Can my wife and I get one together with you?” He looks confused, and then says “OK” with a little shrug. I zoom back in to his side and looking at him say, “Hey Lindsey, what’s you favourite ski hill?” He turns and looks at me and goes “WHHAAATTT??” Ok, but his whole time, the 3 of us are linked arm in arm. The photo guy says to me “stop talking and look here and smile.” Because I’m still talking to him saying “I know you like to ski, and so do we, so I was wondering what your favourite ski hill is.” He’s looking at me like I’m off my rocker, so we all stop, smile for the photo, and then he says “I don’t really ski anymore, I guess Deer Valley, because that’s where we’d go when the kids were small, but we really don’t do that now because the kids are going in different directions.” My husband says “don’t we know that feeling.” And then he said “Enjoy the show,” we all said thanks and left.
The show was fabulous. Lindsey made a nice dedication and thank you to his family for being there. He also thanked “many friends” that attended as well. Commented that this was like a real homecoming for him.
We sat just in front of Leelee, 4 of her friends, Will and a friend, Kristin was a row behind the kids. I wanted to give Kristine a thumbs up after the show, when we were leaving, but we weren’t fast enough getting out of our row. I did let Will escape his row in front of me tho. He smiled, looks quite like his dad when he was younger.
2 gentlemen beside me were telling me that they had been to night 1 of the filming of The Dance. That was fun to pick their brains about it.
Opening act, J.S. Ondara was really really good. He has a beautiful voice, and his songs are gorgeous.
The crowd was really into the music. I didn’t hear anyone yell anything about Stevie or FM. Even my husband, who doesn’t really follow the FM drama, commented that the music was very indicative of the situation that the band/not a band (FM) is in right now. He thought it was a different feel that the GOS tour we saw, but I thought both were awesome. Many of the songs were relevant, like Treason.
Heading home tomorrow, been a great couple of days.
Ps. Went to the Grammy Museum today, it was really neat. Found FM’s 1978 spot on the Grammy version of the walk of fame. We spent about 2 and 1/2 hours there. At one point my husband and I both fell asleep in one of the booths listening to artists talk....my husband is just back from England (jet lag) and I can sleep anywhere!!
