I'm an American but I prefer the British grammar: "the band are" as opposed to "the band is." It's a collective noun, thus the use of the plural form of the verb. "The band is" just sounds funny to me. I'm sure the British usage sounded equally funny to the Dodgers employee who re-wrote the copy. I'm certain that person had no clue that "the band are" is actually correct (in England).
