I would put #1 Michael Anthony of Van Halen.
Michael gave VH their sound with background vocals and their bass. But the silly feud between the Van Halen brothers and Sammy Hagar brought dysfunction to the band. Michael simply openly sided with Sammy (even though he had no beef with the brothers) and that was enough to get him fired. However not only was he fired, he was washed from the band's website as if he never existed.
IMHO its probably equal to Lindsey's firing for being rock's stupidest reason to fire a key member.
